Most visitors view Grand Canyon for the first time from Mather Point, the first canyon overlook. The canyon views anchored by a stunning foreground of natural platforms and pillars of Kaibab limestone. Mather Point include picnic areas and an informal amphitheater. The point is named in honor of Stephen T. Mather, the first director of the National Park Service. The overlook is a beautiful introduction to Grand Canyon, well worth a return visit at sunset or sunrise.
